Should i trust a photographer who has dabbled with nude photography among his portfolio?
first of all, im not a model. just an amateur photography enthusiast who occassionally does self-pictorials. i met this guy through mutual friends and he recently contacted me to model for a photoshoot he will do. i asked for his portfolio and to my surprise most of them are nude pictorials. i told him i will never pose nude and he assures me this project does not involve nudity but idk... im having my doubts, what do you guys think?

Im an amateur photographer trying to work into bigger things. I am extremely interested in artful nude photography. Not like pornographic nude but artistic. Can anyone help?

No you do not need a license.

For nude photography, you need releases though. You need them to be over 18 at the time of photography (not posting-public date), and have them sign a release saying that it's ok, releasing you of any and all things that may arise, legal or domestic.

Also, get them to sign a release for you, saying its ok to put it up publicly.

Issues - shooting nude photography?
am a budding photographer and would like to build my portfolio...I am planning on including artistic nude photos models but I would like to differ from existing nude photographs....i have my own ideas - like some pens and pencils poked into the girl's vagina....design pattern on the breasts and vagina and stuff like that...some may sound funny but iam sure the outcome will be really good! and everything is safe too!

As I said, i am still an amateur photographer...and if i have to go ahead with these shoots, I will have to touch the nude model say her breasts, her vagina because i want them to have some design painted on them. But I am just concerned that even if the model agrees to all this initially, is there a possibility that she might register a sex abuse case or something like that if somehow things dont work out between us? (like u never know if u r going to work with same model ...u might want to try pictures of different models)

well maybe just for your safety either have some one in there with you doing the shoot and preparing for it like another female. maybe an assistant.

Would you pose NUDE for your husband's photography?
If your husband was a professional photographer, or serious amateur, would you pose nude for him? Or, in sexy nighties? Not for publication. Not for anything serious. Just for fun? And, the photos would be just for him and you alone in a private collection.

It would be a way of improving his skills, enjoying looking at you, help build your self consciousness, and maybe even instigating love making. It would also be a way of you teasing and tantalizing him, especially if you've been married for a long time and your love life needed freshening up.

I'm an amatuer photographer, and my wife and I have done this. It's a lot of fun. Most of the pictures get deleted, but we keep the good ones we like stored in a password protected folder on my wife's computer. It helps my wife see herself as the sexy person that I see, it's a huge turn-on for both of us, and I don't ever need to check out porn because I have my own private "stash."

There is Federal law regarding the records you must keep and how long you must keep them.

You will absolutely need a model release to sell your products. On top of the Federal record keeping requirements.

You aren't going to get a free lawyer for this. Not a real one anyway. You want to start a business and make money from it, don't you? So, what about all those folks that want you to take "just a few shots" for free? Pay the man for a couple hours of his time now, or pay a defense attorney a LOT more later.

Trying to get through all the hype of digital camera recommedations!?
I'm trying to pick a digital camera and all the hype gives me a headache! DSLR, P&S, Raw, Tiff, Jpeg. "amateur," 'prosumer', professional! I got an olympus 5000 as a gift last year and I've won two photo awards; one for nude photography & one for architectural photography. The way people write, you'd think photography is rocket science. Geez. my friend who does covers for fashion magazines said about being a photographer, 'all you need to do is push a button.' I'm looking at a G7 which everybody complains about as not having RAW to the point where it sounds like the biggest sin since Adam & Eve. I can't stand the heavy DSLR cameras. I hear that pro cameras have better components so they'll last for years. I got a film SLR when I was 13 and after 17 years of banging it up through jungles and climbing mountains, it works great. I am on a budget and I'm no into photography to make manufacturer's rich; I do it to take good photos. So can I stick with my G7 P&S choice?

The G7 is a great camera, but Canon did just come out with its successor, the G9... which solves the RAW issue.

RAW is handy not just for situations where the exposure may be tough to nail: it retains additional dynamic range that an be manipulated to your benefit.

To achieve the best look for black & white photography, how should the model's make up be made?
Must it be thick to prevent light "penetrating" into the skin? Or nude to give it a more natural effect? Such as light foundation, concealer, blush, etc. I'm only an amateur photographer and wanted to get started even with limited equipments. Help and further info are appreciated. =)

It depends what look you want to go for. If you want a striking but classic look, red lipstick and overdone smokey eyes work. For a more natural look, well done mascara and a slightly darker blush (so it shows in the photograph) are key. You should buy some basics:
3 kinds of blush (deep red, bright rose, tawny pink)
2 shades of bronzer (light and dark to balance blushes)
A large collection of eyeshadows (Color Workshop has great kits, there's a color for everyone)
Extra brushes and sponges (so you will always have clean and fresh tools)
And maybe a yellow concealer--for under eye circles, and green concealer--for ruddy patches and blemishes

You might want to have your subjects bring their own mascara and lip color, since both can rarely be used by more than one person on a sanitary level.

Should they be offended?
I have a friend who is an amateur photographer and he likes to do nude photography of women, but he wants them to cover their faces, of he will just shoot form the neck down- now he says he does this because most of the time they want to anyhow, so it works out for the both of them. I can’t help but to think that he doesn’t want anyone to see their faces b/c of the way they look. I dunno if he is just crazy that way or what. I have heard some of my other male artist friends make similar comments like “I would rather draw a woman and leave her face blank...” What’s the deal with this, should a woman feel offended or what?

Sounds like a man who is seeing females as "objects" and not people.
The personality is the face, and he's trying to remove it from the material object that he lusts after.
For what reason, who knows. Maybe he wants to put a supermodels head on top with photoshop and Frankenstein himself a perfect woman.
